Which link to use, and getting the alert

iPhone, iPad or Mac: tap the Apple link to subscribe. On the setup sheet, switch Remove Alerts off so the 7 p.m. alert sounds.

Google Calendar (Android, Chrome): the Google link opens Google Calendar and offers to add the zone. Google’s phone app can’t add a calendar from a link, so on Android, if nothing offers to add it, open the link on a computer signed in to the same Google account; the calendar then syncs to your phone. Google Calendar doesn’t use the feed’s own alert. To get one, click the three dots next to the trash calendar → Settings → Event notifications, and add a notification at the event time.

Outlook and other calendars: Copy link, then in Outlook choose Add calendar → Subscribe from web and paste it. Most calendar apps have a similar subscribe-by-URL option. Opening the link in a browser downloads a one-time copy that won’t update.

What goes in the carts

Recycling, every other week

  • Plastic bottles, jugs, tubs and containers marked #1, 2, 4, 5 or 7
  • Food and drink cans, aluminum, tin, and empty aerosol cans
  • Food and drink cartons
  • Newspaper, junk mail, magazines and other paper
  • Cardboard and paperboard, flattened
  • Glass bottles, clear or colored

Rinse containers first.

Not in recycling

  • Plastic bags, film and bubble wrap
  • Plastic cups, silverware and storage bags
  • Styrofoam
  • Food waste and greasy pizza boxes
  • Pyrex, ceramics and hangers

Cart rules

  • Everything goes in a cart with the lid closed. Bags beside the cart, yard-waste bags included, are not picked up.
  • Up to two trash carts a week, and two recycling carts on your recycling week. Priority Waste sells extra carts.
  • Set carts with the lid opening toward the street, 3 feet apart, clear of cars, mailboxes and landscaping.
  • Empty and rinse containers: the truck compacts hard enough to squeeze liquids out.
  • To retire an old cart, set it out on your non-recycling week with a note or a red X.

Paint, chemicals and electronics: the Boone County Solid Waste Management District holds Tox Drop and special collections (boonecountysolidwaste.com, (765) 483-0687). Cart rules and materials are from Priority Waste’s 2026 Zionsville brochure and Zionsville page.

Bulk items and heavy trash

Bulk pickup, any week ($10 an item)

For anything too big for the cart, schedule a pickup with Priority Waste at least 48 hours before your pickup day, online or at (855) 927-8365. It costs $10 an item, up to three items. Booked later, it goes the following week.

  • A mattress and box spring together count as one item, as do a chair and ottoman. Couches, toilets and empty water heaters qualify.
  • Nothing over 50 pounds. No tires, bricks, pavers or concrete.
  • Appliances with Freon need it removed and tagged by a technician, and the doors taken off. Tape or break down mirrors and glass.

Heavy-trash week (free, once a year)

The Town takes up to six items per home on its trash service, 50 pounds or less each, set out by 7 a.m. on your non-recycling week. The latest ran the weeks of June 8 and June 15, 2026; the next dates aren’t posted yet. Tires and Freon appliances don’t count toward the six, but call Public Works at (317) 873-4544 first. Not taken: tube TVs, paint, oil and other liquids, batteries, propane tanks, construction debris, fencing, concrete, soil, trees and stumps, and loose piles. (Town of Zionsville)

Yard waste, brush and leaves

Grass clippings and small yard waste go in the trash cart. There is no separate compost route, and yard-waste bags beside the cart are not picked up.

Brush and limbs

Public Works collects brush twice a year in the urban service district, one week per area. The fall 2026 round ran the weeks of September 28 and October 5; the next round’s dates aren’t posted yet. Set it out by 7:30 a.m. on the Monday of your area’s week: pieces 6 inches across or smaller, unbundled, laid the same direction, up to a pickup-truck load. Not taken: leaves, grass, vines, stumps, root balls, lumber, firewood or fencing. Questions: (317) 873-4544. Between rounds, GreenCycle takes brush and limbs free for composting. (Town of Zionsville)

Leaves

The Town vacuums leaves from the curb, generally from late October through late November (in 2025, October 20 to November 30). There’s no set day: crews try to reach every street once a week, or every two weeks at the peak. Rake leaves into long, narrow piles at the curb, leaves only. (Town of Zionsville)

2026 holiday schedule

Six observed holidays. The published rule: if your service day is on or after a weekday holiday, pickup runs one day late, so a Friday route runs Saturday. Weekend holidays change nothing.

Holiday Date Effect that week
New Year's Day Thu, Jan 1 routes on or after Thursday run one day late (Fri → Sat)
Memorial Day Mon, May 25 every route runs one day late (Fri → Sat)
Independence Day Sat, Jul 4 none; falls on a weekend
Labor Day Mon, Sep 7 every route runs one day late (Fri → Sat)
Thanksgiving Thu, Nov 26 routes on or after Thursday run one day late (Fri → Sat)
Christmas Day Fri, Dec 25 routes on or after Friday run one day late (Fri → Sat)

Every neighborhood’s day

Estimated from the official service map. “Near a border” means the neighborhood sits close to a zone line, so confirm it against the map. A dash means we couldn’t place it on the map (the rural service district, outside town limits, or HOA-arranged hauling).

Common questions

Who picks up trash in Zionsville?

Priority Waste, under the Town of Zionsville's contract, which began April 10, 2023. It serves homes in the town's urban service district, and the fee is on the Town's sewer and trash bill ($13.46 a month through March 31, 2027). Homes in the rural service district or outside town limits hire their own hauler.

Which day is trash picked up in Zionsville?

It depends where you live. Priority Waste collects trash weekly, Monday through Friday, by geographic zone under a town-wide contract. Look your neighborhood up above, or check the official service map. In doubt, call Priority Waste at (855) 927-8365.

Is this a recycling week?

Recycling runs every other week on an A/B schedule. The week of October 11 is a B week, so 'B' areas get recycling with their trash. Your A or B letter comes from the service map and stays the same all year.

How do holidays change the pickup day?

Priority Waste observes New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day. If your service day is on or after a weekday holiday, pickup runs one day late: a Friday route runs Saturday. A weekend holiday changes nothing.

What do I do with yard waste?

Put it in the trash cart. There is no separate compost route, and yard-waste bags set beside the cart are not collected. Public Works picks up brush and limbs twice a year in the urban service district and vacuums leaves from the curb from late October through November.

How do I get rid of a couch or mattress?

Schedule a bulk pickup with Priority Waste at least 48 hours before your pickup day, online or at (855) 927-8365: $10 an item, up to three items, nothing over 50 pounds. A mattress and box spring count as one item. The Town also holds a free heavy-trash week once a year.

My street is a zone border. Which schedule applies?

Border streets split down the middle on the official map: your home is serviced with the side of the street it faces. Our lookup is a centroid estimate and cannot see that split, so on a border street confirm against the official map or Priority Waste at (855) 927-8365.

The official map and sources

Pickup days, recycling weeks and cart rules come from Priority Waste’s published Zionsville materials: the service map below (your weekday and A/B letter), the annual collection calendar (which weeks are A weeks, plus holiday slides) and the cart brochure. Bulk pickup, heavy trash, brush, leaves and the fee come from the Town of Zionsville. Our lookup is traced from the map; when the two disagree, the map wins. Schedule facts confirmed for 2026 (the calendar is republished each December); service facts checked October 10, 2026.
